Fairest by Marissa Meyer

Synopsis:

In this stunning bridge book between Cress and Winter in the bestselling Lunar Chronicles, Queen Levana’s story is finally told.

Mirror, mirror on the wall,
Who is the fairest of them all?

Fans of the Lunar Chronicles know Queen Levana as a ruler who uses her “glamour” to gain power. But long before she crossed paths with Cinder, Scarlet, and Cress, Levana lived a very different story – a story that has never been told . . . until now.

~SPOILER ALERT~

I was under the impression that this was going to be a situation where Levana had once been really sweet but she got her heart broken, or experienced some kind of loss that changed her.

I was wrong.

She was delusional from the very beginning and then she became power hungry.

I was also surprised that Channary was such an evil bitch. I did not expect that at all. Also, interesting finding out that she is the reason that Levana is obsessed with glamours. The fact that she burned a child is sick. And it seemed like Levana was getting her revenge by doing the same to Selene.

I was really rooting for Levana and I’m kind of upset that there really isn’t much good in her.

I feel like the only reason she hasn’t killed Winter is because Evret’s dying wish was that she take care of her. I am really excited to read the finale though. I’m also really interested in what Winter and Selene’s reunion will be like.

3 stars.

Oh damn – it’s actually a bit of a shame that Levanna wasn’t that different in this, more complex, or not, well, all bad. I have read the whole series and only the last novella, Stars Above, but I feel like this one doesn’t bring much more to the table? Maybe I’ll skip it 🙂
