This or That? #53

Hello and happy Monday!

In case anyone needs a reminder or is new to the Bookmark Chronicles, here are the rules: Every Monday I will post a This or That Challenge where we will choose between two characters or scenarios. On Friday we will see which scenario/character wins. Feel free to either comment your choice below or make your own post and link it back here! :)

By no means do you have to feel obligated to do every single challenge, but I would love to hear all of your opinions! If you can only really talk about one scenario then go for it. Also, if you have any suggestions or would like to write a guest post about any of the This or That? topics let me know!

This week’s question was inspired by Rachel @ Confessions of a Book Geek who did a guest post for Dani Reviews Things which you can check out here! So the question is:

Do you read New Adult (NA)?

You’re probably already familiar with the term ‘young adult’ right? Well, essentially NA sort of similar but catered to an older age bracket. Rachel says, “NA books tend to focus on protagonists aged 18-25, and can centre on themes such as college, leaving home, and career choices, as well as negotiating more adult relationships and some more serious/darker themes such as abuse, drugs, and mental illness.”

She also says that many times it does also include sex and/or chemistry build up. For that reason, it is often confused with erotica, but they are not the same thing. If you want more details click the link above to read Rachel’s full post. It explains everything very nicely.

So, to answer my own question: No. I have not (yet) read anything that classifies as NA. But Rachel is the second person to recommend books by Colleen Hoover so I have added those to my never ending TBR. That will probably be a definite goal for my 2017 TBR since I’ve already got set books for 2016.

What about you? Are you familiar with NA? Have you read it? If so, what did you think? Let me know!

I am not familiar with NA, but this is the second time I too have heard about it. I get recommendations for books based on my interests, and have seen a few pop there. I will definitely be checking these out!

I’m not entirely sure. I’ve never heard of this category before. It’s a maybe, I guess. I read some of Sophie Kinsella’s books, and most of her characters are 25-27 (at oldest). It usually follows a ‘growing up’ phase, too, despite the fact that they’re older. Like in “Remember Me?” Lexi looses her memory due to her car accident. She’s now 27, but thinks she’s 25, and everything has changed. She’s a manager of a department now, she’s married, she’s a size 6 (UK … so I think US size 2), her teeth are all fixed and her life appears perfect, but then she realises it’s not. So it’s all about that discovery (and her novels often include hot sex scenes, but definitely not erotica). Does that count? If so, then yes. If not, probably no.

Yes! I get a lot of my NA recs from My Tiny Obsessions. I see them on her blog, and I add them to my TBR. 🙂

I only just heard of NA from reading about it on a page you linked to, discussing the differences between “erotica” & “NA.” So, no, I haven’t read any NA yet either.
