Siege and Storm by Leigh Bardugo
Synopsis:
Darkness never dies.
Hunted across the True Sea, haunted by the lives she took on the Fold, Alina must try to make a life with Mal in an unfamiliar land. She finds starting new is not easy while keeping her identity as the Sun Summoner a secret. She can’t outrun her past or her destiny for long.
The Darkling has emerged from the Shadow Fold with a terrifying new power and a dangerous plan that will test the very boundaries of the natural world. With the help of a notorious privateer, Alina returns to the country she abandoned, determined to fight the forces gathering against Ravka. But as her power grows, Alina slips deeper into the Darkling’s game of forbidden magic, and farther away from Mal. Somehow, she will have to choose between her country, her power, and the love she always thought would guide her–or risk losing everything to the oncoming storm.
~SPOILER ALERT~
Holy fuck!
So first I was kind of like damn, The Darkling found her in the first chapter?? But I was not at all expecting Sturmhond to turn on him, and I damn sure did not expect him to be a prince.
Given that this is a trilogy, I suppose I should have guessed that there would be 3 amplifiers. I’m really interested to see what happens when they find the Firebird. Also, the “daughter of two mills” hint was pretty interesting. Alina is clearly the Chosen One.
Honestly, I’m not sure how I feel about Nikolai. Right now, I don’t have any strong feelings just yet.
I fucking hate Mal. He’s such a little bitch. Alina is the fucking Sun Summoner and every ten seconds he’s crying about something. Like that whole, “I only left so you would ask me to stay” bullshit would not fucking fly with me. If you keep volunteering to leave, obviously she’s going to think you want to go. She’s not a fucking mind reader. You’re an adult, use your words.
So is Baghra dead? And when Alina thought she saw her it was actually Genya? And did he do that because Genya let them escape? Christ, that girl has been through a lot. And way to go David, ignore her when she’s right in fucking front of you, but now show that you care.
How is the Darkling projecting himself to Alina? Is that a part of his new power thing? It’s creepy AF.
I don’t feel bad about Vasily’s death at all. Fucking idiot……and now Nikolai is the rightful heir!!
I was surprised that Tolya and Tamar were working for the Apparat. For some reason I did not see that coming at all. I love them both though.
Ugh of course, they had to save Alina, which meant they also saved the Darkling and now this fucker is ruling Ravka.
Oh, and Alina can’t call her power.
What the actual fuck!?!
4.5 stars.
