DNF Series Review | Me Before You by Jojo Moyes

MBY

It is very hard for me to DNF a book let alone a series. I wanted to like this series because of everything that I had heard about it, but the fact is that it just isn’t good (in my opinion).

I did enjoy the first book, more than I expected to. I appreciate when books cover things that aren’t talked about enough like sexual assault and ableism so I really loved that. However, I just didn’t really feel the connection between Lou and Will. It’s obvious that she loved him but I didn’t feel that he loved her. If you want the full review, check it out here.

After You, was a different story. It fell flat for me. It was boring. I struggled to get through it and ultimately felt like it was a waste of time. You can read about that too. Take note that both reviews contain spoilers.

I had no idea that this would actually be a trilogy. While I would usually be right on it because I’m more than halfway through the series, I can’t see myself wasting time or money to complete it. Not this time. I usually don’t read book descriptions but I read the blurb for Still Me to see if it would be worth it. I don’t think it will be at all. That’s why I’ve decided to DNF. The final book was just published yesterday and if you’ve read it or are currently let me know what you think!

I’m hoping that maybe someday I can give Jojo Moyes another chance because I know she has so many other works but I can’t see it happening, at least not any time soon. I also have an issue with the way she describes POC. And to be honest there only seemed to be two (total) in the last two books and they were both very minor characters. We’ll see what happens though.

I do not recommend this series.

  1. I enjoyed the first book as well but I knew as soon as I finished that I would not continue with the series. To me it is a standalone and I never understood the point of the other books!

I have read Jojo Moyes collection of short stories called Paris For One and thought it was really cute! Perfect for Valentine’s Day!

Yeah I don’t think this is a series that’s for me hey. I haven’t even bothered watching the movie, I really just don’t like the premise. As it is I’m not big on contemporary, but on top of that it really seemed like it would be sad and I don’t like being sad from reading. I’m sorry that the series wasn’t great for you though, at least now hopefully you can move on to a better book/series 🙂

I couldn’t believe it when I found out there was a second book, but a third? That’s so weird to me. I made the active choice not to read the sequel because I liked the ending of the first book and wanted to end the story for me there. From the sound of it, it’s good that you dnf’d it too!
