Carswell’s Guide to Being Lucky by Marissa Meyer
Synopsis:
Thirteen-year-old Carswell Thorne has big plans involving a Rampion spaceship and a no-return trip out of Los Angeles.
~SPOILER ALERT~
I didn’t like this story at all…..probably because I don’t like Thorne.
At 13 he was the same selfish, inconsiderate, manipulative asshole that he is now. (Sure, now he’s starting to change, but still).
Also, this novella is full of bullshit tropes. The popular guy defends the quite girl so she does something that she morally disagrees with, because she feels that she owes him (she doesn’t). Guys bullying girls because they “like” them. Yeah, teaching people that abuse is affection is a great thing to do (not). The smart quite girl has to be described as unattractive because we women must be smart or cute, but never both!
And what kind of bullshit school policy suspends students that get beat up and didn’t even get a chance to defend themselves?
Ugh. 2 stars.
