For anyone who needs a reminder or is new to the Bookmark Chronicles, here are the rules: Every Monday I will post a This or That Challenge where we will choose between two characters or scenarios. On Friday we will see which scenario/character wins. Feel free to either comment your choice below or make your own post and link it back here!
By no means do you have to feel obligated to do every single challenge, but I would love to hear all of your opinions! If you can only really talk about one scenario then go for it. Also, if you have any suggestions or would like to write a guest post about any of the This or That? topics let me know!
This week I want to know…..
Have you ever heard of/read steampunk?
Steampunk is a subgenre of science fiction/fantasy that usually (but not always) takes place in a historical setting and features some sort of fictional technological advancements. It can sometimes be described with the phrase, “If the future happened sooner.” Read more about it here.
*If we put this in terms of really popular series, both The Infernal Devices and The Lunar Chronicles count.*
This is a yes because I have read The Infernal Devices. I won’t say anything further because I don’t want to spoil anything but if you read it, then you know what I mean.
I have not yet read Cinder but it’s on my TBR for this year.
I did enjoy TID and I have heard good things about The Lunar Chronicles so I think that this is something that I could get used to. If you click the link above it will take you to Goodreads and there’s an entire list of books that fall into this category that you can explore.
What about you? Ever heard of this genre? Ever read it? Let me know!

I’ve heard of Steampunk but I didn’t enjoy TID, although I think the genre is a fascinating idea.

I love Steampunk literature. I wrote my thesis on Steampunk literature, and included the Infernal Devices in it. I had so much fun studying and writing about it.

I think it’s more middle grade, but it does have a diverse cast of characters!

Okay, I’ve got younger siblings so maybe one of them will read it!

Yes & no – I’ve heard of steampunk, but I haven’t read any steampunk stories/novels. I have some (wonderfully, fabulously, frantabulously) geeky friends who love doing cosplay & other dress-up events. They’re big into steampunk, going so far as to craft their own antique-looking firearms & putting lasers on them. It’s really great to see their creativity shine.
I’m sure if I read any steampunk, it would be my friends I was imagining as the main characters! LOL
