Series Review: The Mortal Instruments by Cassandra Clare

I enjoyed the series for the most part.

However, in all honesty, I felt that she dragged the story out a little too much. This story could very well have been told in four (maybe five) books instead of six. I’m also under the impression that it was meant to be a trilogy at first and while I like that it was extended I still think it was a bit overdone.

As I mentioned in my series review of The Infernal Devices, I really do love the world that she has created. As I also said with that series, the love triangle really wasn’t necessary.

Here are the individual reviews for each book:

That’s 3.58 stars for the series as a whole. It is one that I would recommend but I would say to read The Infernal Devices first!

It looks like both The Last Hours and The Dark Artifices will be trilogies so I hope they stay that way.

Now that I’ve finished this series I am really looking forward to watching Shadowhunters 🙂

  2. I agree! I read the first three books and felt like it had been wrapped up pretty neatly. The 4th book felt like a drag and I didn’t bother finishing the series.
