This or That? #70

In case anyone needs a reminder or is new to the Bookmark Chronicles, here are the rules: Every Monday I will post a This or That Challenge where we will choose between two characters or scenarios. On Friday we will see which scenario/character wins. Feel free to either comment your choice below or make your own post and link it back here! :)

By no means do you have to feel obligated to do every single challenge, but I would love to hear all of your opinions! If you can only really talk about one scenario then go for it. Also, if you have any suggestions or would like to write a guest post about any of the This or That? topics let me know!

This week I want to know…..

Do you  have a favorite classic? If so, what is it and do you remember when you first read it?

You probably know what I mean by “classic” but if not it basically means a book that has been deemed (and accepted as) noteworthy or extraordinary. The ones that are always on suggested reading lists and that are often read in schools. To Kill A Mockingbird, The Great Gatsby, Of Mice and Men, anything by Shakespeare, etc.

My favorite is Pride and Prejudice by Jane Austen and it is actually my second favorite book (after Small Great Things by Jodi Picoult of course).

The first time that I read it was in the seventh grade. I remember my school and what my Language Arts teacher looks like but I cannot remember her name. She got married the next year and changed her last name to Smith but I can’t remember her maiden name.

Anyway, I loved it. I already really like this class but being assigned this book made me love it even more. AND we watched the movie afterwards (2005 version with Keira Knightley) which is really really good and one of my favorite movies.

Seriously, if you haven’t read P&P I strongly suggest that you do.

What about you? Do you have a favorite classic? Let me know!

My favorite classic is Wuthering Heights by Emily Bronte! I read it in the 9th grade and I fell in love with the story. I didn’t see the movie until I started dating my husband. The movie is good too, they stay true to the book! I also really like The Picture of Dorian Gray by Oscar Wilde.

  2. This is such a tough question. I think that, technically, To Kill a Mockingbird and Pride and Prejudice are the BEST classics, but the classic novel I remember having the hugest impression on me was The Scarlet Letter–Hester Prynne’s story devastated me.

Diary of an ex colored man by James Weldon Johnson , but a modern take on Middleclass to upper middle class would be negroland. It is like reading a diary of growing up in the upper crust of Black society. Interesting!

I’d probably have to say that I don’t have a favourite classic, unless we’re diving into children’s books, such as Charlie and the Chocolate Factory!
