There are multiple genders. Even assigned birth sex isn’t always either male or female. Interrex people exist.

  3. I remember in my college Biology class there was a case of a ‘woman’ seeing a fertility specialist. Apparently her fertility “problem” turned out to be that she was genetically male. There’s a tiny part of the ‘y’ chromosome that is responsible for developing male aspects, but if it breaks off or gets damaged then that development does not happen and the baby continues to develop as a female physically – except no eggs. If she hadn’t been trying to have a baby, or hadn’t gone in for genetic testing, she (and her family) would have had no idea that she was “male”. Gender is complicated, even if it is limited to genetic binary – still complicated.
