Rae’s Rules to Remember #46: POC deserve representation too.

This is going to be super quick and is kind of just a rant but it needs to be said.

So apparently Zendaya has been chosen to play the role of Mary Jane in the next Spiderman movie and what do you know, people are pissed. Pissed that a black woman was chosen for the role. And by pissed, I mean they are furious. Yet, these same people were silent all of the times that white actors were cast as people of color.

God’s of Egypt ring a bell? Even on the History Channel in documentaries of Egypt, gods and royalty are all played by white actors while only slaves have much darker skin. Don’t get me wrong, people of color come in all shades but the fact of the matter is that Egyptians are still African.

What about when Emma Stone was cast to play an Asian-American woman? No? No complaints there right?

If you didn’t complain about those casting decisions then don’t complain about this one.

People of color deserve representation too so let us have Hermione and Mary Jane.

I don’t understand the fuss over having a black woman play Mary-Jane. It shouldn’t matter in this day and age.

I think it is great. About time too. Equal opportunities for all.
