Rae’s Rules to Remember #43: Yes, I am a feminist. No, I don’t hate men

So this is gonna be a quick post.

Considering the fact that the entire purpose of feminism is gender equality, people really need to let go of the notion that feminists are man-haters and want them all dead.

Are there women out there who claim to be feminists even though they hate men? Yes. Does that mean that all feminists are like that? No. Does that mean that the entire feminist movement is about “getting rid of” men? No.

The movement is still about gender equality. So how exactly does hating men accomplish that? Trick question because obviously it doesn’t. In fact, it’s the complete opposite.

Here’s why I am a feminist: I believe in the social, political, and economic equally of all genders regardless of their identities.

Here’s why I don’t hate men: Aside from the fact that men are included in the above, I have four little brothers. How can I possibly hate men when that’s what some of the people that I care about most will grow up to be? Also, I know that all men aren’t  bad. Having a bad experience with one person doesn’t mean that every other person that shares an identity with them will be just like them. I think we can all agree on that.

So, remember that the next time you want to assume that all feminists hate men. We don’t, and the women who hate men aren’t real feminists.
