This or That? #52

Hi and happy Monday!

In case anyone needs a reminder or is new to the Bookmark Chronicles, here are the rules: Every Monday I will post a This or That Challenge where we will choose between two characters or scenarios. On Friday we will see which scenario/character wins. Feel free to either comment your choice below or make your own post and link it back here! :)

By no means do you have to feel obligated to do every single challenge, but I would love to hear all of your opinions! If you can only really talk about one scenario then go for it. Also, if you have any suggestions or would like to write a guest post about any of the This or That? topics let me know!

So last week we talked about reading reviews. This week I want to know…

Do you write book reviews? Why or why not? And if so where do you post them? (Goodreads, WordPress, Youtube etc.)

Well you all know that I do write reviews most of the time and that I post them here. I have considered posting them on Goodreads but never really got to it. Possibly because I don’t really read reviews on Goodreads. Ariel told me I should so maybe I will 🙂 I think that reason that I write them is to get all of my thoughts out. And then if I forget and someone asks me about it I can always go back to it or direct them towards it. I also just appreciate being able to share thoughts with other people who have read the book and hear their opinions as well.

What about you? Do you like writing reviews? Let me know!

I have not yet written a book review, but my goal is to start reading more this coming winter and continue that through next year. I used to read all of the time, but since my mom was ill and most of my free time was spent taking care of her I haven’t been reading very much, except for the blogs I follow and some fan fiction! Anyway, I think after things calm down a bit in my life and I get back into reading, I will start writing book reviews. More than likely just on WordPress, but I’m considering good reads, but I do read reviews on there!

    • I hope everything’s okay with your mom! Can’t wait til you have time to write 🙂

My mom passed away the day after Christmas. I’ve been having a hard time dealing with it, but I’m slowly getting back to my old self.I’m also glad that she doesn’t have to suffer anymore. She was in misery. Anyway, we are currently in the process of remodeling our home, and a few other personal things, but I’m excited to start setting aside more time for reading and writing reviews!!

      • I’m so sorry to hear that. I know that everyone always says at least they’re no longer in pain but that doesn’t always make it easier. My aunt passed from breast cancer right before Thanksgiving two years ago, and I know it’s not exactly the same as losing a parent but I do feel your pain.
At least you’re talking about it, I hope its helping. Good luck with the remodeling, I hope it turns out the way you want 🙂

Thank you so much! I’ve written a few blog posts about her. I find that writing helps me heal, as well as talking about it. I’m sorry for the loss of your aunt, and just because it wasn’t a parent doesn’t mean it doesn’t hurt. Hugs!

      • That’s awesome. I wish I was writing then because I just couldn’t talk about it. *hugs returned*

Not yet, but I still owe someone a review, and also want to review my favorite book I just read even though it’s not new at all.

I have, once, but it was just more about my favourite books and why. I don’t really write them, at all, ever, but if you ask my opinion I’ll usually give it. So I guess my answer is no. Mainly because I’m lazy, I can’t be bothered.

  4. I write book reviews and I post them on Goodreads and WordPress. They are usually the same post but I just add a bit of an intro to my WordPress post as it is a bit more personalised than chucking a review up on Goodreads. I like writing my reviews as it gets all my emotions out and then after that, I feel like I’m ready for another book. I also like discussing things with other people and with writing a review on my blog people can then comment and tell me what they thought as well.

Oh my gosh! I got a This or That mention! I feel so special!! *excited child-like bouncing*

As we discussed in last week’s This or That’s comments, I write reviews on Goodreads. I started doing this to get my thoughts out about a book, but also as a reminder – should I forget (which is so possible; my memory is like a goldfish’s) – what I thought about a book & how I came to that conclusion/rating. I’ve been rating books since 1996, but I only recently started writing reviews & I really think that they’re gonna help me when I’m asked about a book, or can’t remember a book’s good/bad/mediocre qualities long after I put the book away.

&, yes, I think you ought to post your reviews on Goodreads. While we may not read other people’s reviews as much on the site, I think that your attention to detail & careful reading could help those who do choose to read the reviews. 🙂

Yes! I mostly post reviews on my blog. I always try to cross post by posting them on Goodreads as well, but some of them haven’t made it over. That’s on my never-ending to-do list! 😉 Although, sometimes I feel weird writing my reviews in GR, because I can’t link to my other reviews by the same author. Well, I can, but it’s weird. Lol. I like writing reviews because I can get my feelings out about a certain book, or I can rant/rave about how much I liked/disliked it. However, sometimes writing reviews can be daunting; especially if I’m unsure about how I really felt about the book.

    • I agree, it’s nice to get all your feelings out. I do think that when I don’t know how I feel posting a review and saying that helps. People who read it will usually help you sort out which side you’re leaning towards!
