Hi Happy first Monday of April
In case anyone needs a reminder or is new to the Bookmark Chronicles, here are the rules: Every Monday I will post a This or That Challenge where we will choose between two characters or scenarios. On Friday we will see which scenario/character wins. Feel free to either comment your choice below or make your own post and link it back here!
By no means do you have to feel obligated to do every single challenge, but I would love to hear all of your opinions! If you can only really talk about one scenario then go for it. Also, if you have any suggestions please let me know!
So I was debating whether I wanted to post this question but I guess the conversations that come from it could be interesting. This week we’re choosing between…
OTP (one true pair)
OR
Love triangles
So I think that I know how this conversation will go for the most part but let’s see.
I personally am sick of dealing with love triangles in YA. Seriously make it stop. I get that it’s fictional but how many of us in real life have ever found ourselves in a love triangle where we were seriously considering whether to be with one person on the other? Maybe it does happen but I don’t think it happens as often as it is depicted in novels. At first, it was kinda like “ooh the suspense, who will they choose” and now its like “oh great, this shit again”
I just feel like the trend of the love triangle is overdone. I cannot think of a book that I’ve read recently that included romance but did not include a love triangle …..wait …..thinking ….nope there isn’t one. It’s so annoying why is it even a trend? There’s even a small one in P&P with Lizzie, Darcy and Wickham. UNNECESSARY!
Anyway, that’s just my personal opinion and I’m interested to hear what everyone else has to say. So I am definitely for OTP (btw, I had no idea what the hell this stood for until about a month ago lol).
Where do you stand, which do you prefer? Let me know! 🙂

Love triangles, squares or whatever random shape need to leave through the back door, along with instalove.

OTP for sure. I feel like triangles are getting to be… expected? Like, books are throwing them in only because they think people want them, and its just getting weak.

Exactly! and so far, a lot of people have said that they DON’T want them lol

I AM SO WITH YOU ON THIS. Literally, exactly what you said. Word for word.

I feel OTP gives us a lot more insight on characters than any love triangles…octogon could ever attempt to deliver. OTP for the win! 😀

I’ve seen both ideas work at times, but really, I’m totally with you in being over the love-triangle thing. It seems to be a huge trend in recent lit. And I think that developing the relationship between just two individuals really does tell you a lot more about them, allowing the story to be more about who they are than about the tension of the choice.

OTP! Love triangles give me a headache because more often than not, it is not well constructed. The one in The Iron Fey series by julie Kagawa was the only one that hasn’t bothered me so far.
