Hello friends! Happy Monday
In case anyone needs a reminder or is new to the Bookmark Chronicles, here are the rules: Every Monday I will post a This or That Challenge where we will choose between two characters or scenarios. On Friday we will see which scenario/character wins. Feel free to either comment your choice below or make your own post and link it back here! 🙂
By no means do you have to feel obligated to do every single challenge, but I would love to hear all of your opinions! If you can only really talk about one scenario then go for it. Also, if you have any suggestions please let me know!
This week I am wondering…
Would you prefer to write a stand alone novel that turns into a movie
OR
Write a series that turns into a TV show?
No mixing and matching! (No series turned to movies or stand alone into TV show)!
I think I would have to choose to write a series that turns into a TV show. First because I like series more. Second because (to me) it just makes more sense. When they tried to make A Series of Unfortunate Events into a movie they crammed in as much as possible and it was terrible. Gossip Girl and Pretty Little Liars were books before they made it to TV, I enjoy both of those.
Sometimes novels turned movies just don’t capture the whole book well enough in two hours. I want all the details, ya know?
Which would you choose? Let me know!
Interesting question! I’d have to go with writing a stand alone novel that turns into a movie! You come up with some really good options! 🙂

Do you come up with them yourself?

Yup! They usually come to me either the night before I post or when I’m actually thinking hard about it. This was one that I had saved in my phone notepad for a while

I think I’d pick series as well, basically for the same reasons as you stated. Although if I actually had a published series, I’d probably hate seeing it on screen because it could never be the same as I imagined it.

Yeah, that’s the downside. You don’t get to direct or pick the cast

Good question! My initial response was standalone book to movie because I prefer standalones. However, you made a good case for turning a series of books into a television series, so I’ll go with that.

Definitely a series that turns into a TV show. I love those! Granted, I haven’t read Gossip Girl or PLL, but I love the shows!

I was going to say movie, but your explanation won me over! I’d rather it become a series, so the intent and meaning isn’t lost. I’d hate if it was a stand alone movie and it was like Harry Potter or something – half the good parts a lost, and unnecessary things are added for no reason, just to add more time!
